Y5/6: Mr Preston's Class 2019 - 2020

Mr Preston

During this Autumn Term we will be looking at new and exciting topics, checking out our Learning Logs from the over the Summer break and settling into our first term in school together

What’s happening this term

During this Autumn Term we will be looking at our new topic, "The Titanic" - Where we will be focusing on life in Edwardian Britain, and how this unique ear in history was reflected on the class divide found on the Titanic!

Science will be looking at Electrcity, studying how to make circuits and what will stop these from working. We will also look at the affect of increasing and decreasing voltage.

Spellings will be focusing on the Year 5/6 spelling list and will be given out to learn each week for a test the following Monday.

Class Rules

  • Follow adults instructions
  • Respect each others opinions and think before you speak
  • Respect each others property and look after the classroom
  • Try your hardest in everything you do & have a positive mindset
  • Help people who feel sad and don't leave anyone out

Homework

Homework will be given out every Wednesday for Literacy for all groups (focusing on spellings) but will be group specific for Numeracy (see your child's planner for details).

We will be having a particular focus on Timestables each week, using Timestable Rockstars to make this a fun and engaging activity. This can be done at home any time and support in encouraging your child would be appreciated.

Reading

Every pupil has been given a Reading Record that is to be used in school and taken home with their chosen reading book. The expectation is that they will read at least three times to themselves out of school and record this in the book. Ideally, at least one of these sessions will be to an adult at home. This encourages your child to read and also gives you chance to see what progress they are making.

Reading Records will be collected in every Friday to be checked. Children completing this successfuly will be rewarded with Table Points.

PE

Indoor PE lessons this term will be Dance on a Thursday afternoon.

The Year 6 group will be swimming on a Tuesday afternoon.

Children not in the correct PE kit will not be allowed to take part in the lesson.
